Established in 2003 by Mo Hmaidan and now stewarded by his son Tarek, The Phoenician Garden is a family-owned Lebanese-Mediterranean restaurant at First and Herndon in North Fresno that local families have returned to for over twenty years.

Recipes that predate the restaurant.

What started as a small family kitchen has grown into a Central Valley tradition. The recipes we serve today are older than the restaurant.

Established in 2003 by Mo Hmaidan and now stewarded by his son, Tarek Hmaidan, The Phoenician Garden is a tribute to enduring family traditions and age-old recipes. Tarek sources the majority of our authentic spices directly from Lebanon, continuing the rich legacy and traditions that define our cuisine. Our dishes are made from family recipes passed down from generation to generation. Each meal is a journey through the flavors of Lebanon.

Over more than two decades, our dining room has become a gathering place. Weddings on Saturdays. Office lunch crowds during the week. A regular belly-dancing audience on Fridays. Through it all, the kitchen has stayed in one family.

Today Tarek runs the kitchen day to day, while Mo still works most Saturday evenings. The plan for our second location, Phoenician Express in Clovis, is the same as the plan for Herndon was in 2003: cook honestly, feed people generously, build something the family can keep.

In the Neighborhood

Our corner of Fresno.

We are at First and Herndon, across from St. Agnes Medical Center. Most weeks the dining room is part wedding reception, part hospital lunch break, part Friday-night belly-dance crowd. We are happy to be the room that holds all of it.

In 2026, the California Restaurant Association named us Best of the Valley, alongside a Fresno Bee Readers' Choice win and three straight years of Best of Central California silver.

When did Phoenician Garden open?
The Phoenician Garden opened in 2003. We have been at our Herndon Ave location since the very beginning, family-owned and family-run for over twenty years.
Who owns Phoenician Garden?

Do you offer catering services?
We cater weddings, corporate events, office lunches, and family gatherings throughout Fresno, Clovis, and the Central Valley. Catering starts around $17 per guest for individual wraps with shared appetizers; family-style platters with shawarma or kebobs, rice, vegetables, and pita run about $20 to $26 per guest. We also offer $50 off catering orders of $500 or more with code FRESNOFEAST. Pricing is an estimate; per-guest servings are based on average portions and final proposal may vary. Does Phoenician Garden take reservations?
We are walk-in; we do not take online reservations. Seating is first-come, first-served, and there is rarely a long wait. For parties of 6 or more, please call (559) 261-2747 ahead and we will do our best to have seating ready for your group.
Is there belly dancing at Phoenician Garden?
Yes. We host live belly dancing nights in our Fresno dining room. See our belly dancing page for the current schedule and featured performers.
Does Phoenician Garden have a bar or happy hour?
Yes, we have a full bar with beer, wine, and cocktails. Happy Hour runs Monday through Thursday, 1 to 3 PM, dine-in only. Must be 21 or older to order alcohol.
